Boot-Repair FTW: How to fix the broken grub with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 15.04

With Windows 7, installed, I had successful installation completion of Ubuntu 15.04 expecting to have dual boot.

But upon installation completion, once I restarted the machine, it directs boots up into Windows and made me sad to see that I have lost a fair amount of my hard allocated for Ubuntu (obviously :))

The quick fix to solve the issue was to

1. Boot up Ubuntu 15.04 in live USB.

2. Install and Run Boot-Repair

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair

       sudo apt-get update

       sudo apt-get install boot-repair

Once Boot-Repair is installed, run it from the terminal as ‘boot-repair’ (again obviously!) (All details on Boot-repair)

The process is self explanatory once you run boot-repair, and easy to follow.

3. Now I could successfully login to Ubuntu , through grub , but Windows option was not available. The fix was to

1. Login to Ubuntu

2. Run sudo update-grub

With earlier version of Ubuntu , I found it quite convenient and easy to install in dual boot mode. But with the later versions , it gives some trouble which is fun but well troubling………..
